Dr. Luis Castro is one of America’s most successful race track veterinarians having worked with three Kentucky Derby winners including the famous Animal Kingdom who went on to win the Dubai World Cup under his care. He joined Teigland, Franklin & Brokken DVM’s in 1991. Dr. Castro practices November through April at Palm Meadows in Florida, and May through October at Saratoga Racetrack in New York.
Dr. Phoebe Smith is a leading, highly respected specialist internist. She began an internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center then practiced general equine medicine in Southern California for two years before beginning residency training in internal medicine at UC Davis. Achieving board certification in Internal Medicine in 2003, Dr. Smith returned to Alamo Pintado as a specialist, focusing on emergency/critical care, neonatal and internal medicine cases. In 2007, Dr. Smith was recruited by Ohio State University, and accepted a position as clinical professor in Equine Internal Medicine. In 2010, she returned to the Santa Ynez Valley to establish her own business the successful specialty internal medicine practice Riviera Equine.
Dr. Rodney Belgrave is the director of the Internal Medicine Department at Mid Atlantic Equine Medical Centre. Dr. Belgrave has served on the educational program committee of the AAEP, and is currently on the Board of Directors of the North East Association of Equine Practitioners (NEAEP). Dr. Belgrave has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and his specialty interests include respiratory and neurological disorders, neonatology, and gastroenterology.

Dr. Bonnie Barr is an equine internal medicine specialist at the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Barr is a respected leader in the field of internal medicine and oversees the equine neonatal intensive care facilities at Rood & Riddle. She is the vice-President of the Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners and a published author on equine pediatric medicine.
Dr. Richard Markell is a USEF consulting veterinarian specializing in jumping and dressage horses. He has been the official treating veterinarian at 4 FEI World Cup Jumping and Dressage Finals events. He works as a solo-practitioner based in California and travels internationally to consult on some of the most successful show jumping horses in the world.

Dr. Potenza is co-owner of San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in California. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree from Cornell University and went on to graduate from the University of California, Davis- School of Veterinary Medicine. She then sought out advanced training in diagnostic imaging and navicular bursography through the Masters program at UC Davis. She is a licensed official under the United States Equestrian Federation with certification as an FEI Veterinary Delegate.
Dr. Potenza’s interests include sports medicine, advanced lameness diagnostics, ultrasonography, and equine rehabilitation.
Dr. Jan-Hein Swagemakers is the team veterinarian to the German showjumping team. Under his care the German team has been the most successful nations cup winning team of the past decade. He is specialized in surgery, chiropractic and orthopedics. Based out of the Oldenburg region in Germany Dr. Swagemakers spends his time between top German showjumping stables and consulting on cases around Europe.

Dr. Hanna earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation she was awarded the ACVS (American College of Veterinary Surgeons) Excellence in Large Animal Surgery Award and the ACVIM (American College of Internal Medicine) Large Animal Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Hanna moved to SE Oklahoma in 2012 and opened her own practice, Hanna Equine Services LLC in June, 2013.
Dr. Tim Ober is the US showjumping team veterinarian since 1999. He has cared for some of the most famous horses in showjumping and experienced multiple Olympic and World Championship medal wins. He joined Steele and Associates in 2001 and has practices based in Gordonsville, Virginia and Wellington, Florida.
Dr. Keith Latson graduated from Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and went on to pursue surgical specialty training at University of California, Davis. For the past number of years Dr. Latson has been practicing as a race track and consulting surgical veterinarian in California. He has worked with some of the most celebrated racehorses in the last decade including this year’s Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome. His current practice focuses on lameness, upper respiratory and orthopedic surgery in racing Thoroughbreds.
Dr. Franklin is a recognized leader in the field of equine veterinary medicine. He is currently a Director of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and has served as Founder and President of the Texas Equine Veterinary Association. Dr. Franklin has established and managed intensive care units in several equine referral hospitals including Angus McKinnon’s Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Australia, Equine Medical Centre of Ocala, Florida and Weatherford Equine Medical Centre in Texas.
Dr. Chris Ray is one of the most famous equine veterinarians west of the Mississippi. He specializes in equine orthopedic and soft tissue injury and performed his surgical residency at Colorado State University from 1991-1994. Since then Dr. Ray has practiced in Oklahoma, Texas and Montana. He is now the chief resident veterinarian at the famous Copper Spring Ranch Quarter Horse breeding and training ranch.
Dr. Philippe Benoit is widely regarded as an international leading show jumping veterinarian. He served as team veterinarian for the French Olympic Team from 1992 to 2000. Dr. Benoit has also served as an international consultant for several foreign national teams and was the treating veterinarian during the show jumping finals at the World Equestrian Games in Normandy.

Dr. Huggons is a board certified surgeon and obtained Diplomate status under the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is a member of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology. Dr. Huggons and his wife Dr. Korin Potenza are the owners of San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in California. Dr. Huggons interests include orthopedic, airway, laparoscopic, soft tissue and emergency surgeries as well as advanced lameness diagnostics and imaging.
Dr. Nathan Slovis is one of the world’s leading consultants for equine surgery and medicine. He is board certified in large animal internal medicine and he is currently the Director of the McGee Medical Center at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky.
Dr. Jordan Lewis is a sport horse veterinarian based in Wellington Florida. She practices from the largest equine referral hospital in south Florida, Palm Beach Equine, which cares for high-end competition horses especially during the Winter Equestrian Festival. Dr. Lewis completed her internship in equine medicine and surgery at the Equine Medical Centre of Ocala.
